We just had the most amazing tour today at the beautiful Happy Acres Goat Farm. Colton and Grady's class had a field trip to the farm so all the little ones arrived to find miniature ponies, donkies, and chickens greeting us at the entrance. Farmer stephanie brought out a giant bag of peanuts and a heard of goats came charging over for all the kids to feed.
Our tour began in the milking room. She called in a few lady goats, and colton gave Jenny a treat for participating in the tour!
Farmer stephanie then explained to the kids where milk comes from. She gave it a squeeze, and then filled a little dish for the kitty to have a snack! (an orphaned kitty nursed to health on goats milk - no wonder she loves the stuff!)
After we learned about "teets", we headed over to a pin with some babies! Farmer stephanie filled a bunch of bottles and we got to bottle feed the little cuties! a few sucked my finger, and they did try unsuccessfully to chew on loose clothing, but they were just adorable! grady did awesome feeding one of the babies!
After we played with the babies, we headed back into the milking room to make our own cheese! well, sorta, it was made the night before, but we got to stir in fruit preserves or herbs to make it our own creation. this cheese was so yummy...imagine soft sweet cheese similar to cream cheese. everyone had to wear their cheese making hats.
we had an awesome time here, i can't wait to go back again. they do adult tours....imagine the fun!
