Christy! 4.8-12

I met christy in 10th grade, 15 years ago!  through many moves, we've been able to remain long distance friends and i was lucky enough to have her visit last week!

she flew in late on thursday night, and the airlines lost her baggage.  great way to start a vacation.  turns out, it never left washington d.c., so "hopefully" we'd receive it the next day.

friday morning we hung around the house a little bit and played outside until luckily the airlines called and were on their way to deliver christy's luggage.  she gave the boys a couple of her favorite books as a kid, so of course they had to get read immediately.

strange as it was, around lunch time it actually started hailing!  little ice balls falling from the sky...the kids were fascinated, and actually, so was I because it was sunny just hours before! anyhow, after lunch we headed south to one of our favorite beaches.  We explored Avila Barn with some animals, then did a little hike that peaks at an ocean lookout.

shaun picked up the boys late afternoon from Avila Beach and christy and I had the next 24 hours to ourselves!  we had a fancy dinner downtown, then spent the rest of the evening at a cabin with hot springs.  we are old...so we were in bed by 1030!

saturday morning we walked around downtown san luis, sat at a little cafe with an outside patio and had lunch, shopped around a little more, then got home to a quite house since the boys were all out on an adventure.

on sunday, shaun joined us on an amazing day out to explore the tide pools at Cayucos beach.  this was only our second time exploring tide pools, and we found all sorts of interesting things.  the highlight was probably the young seal that was a little stuck in the low tide water.  he was not 3-4 feet from us and was just resting in the sun.  we also saw tons of hermit crabs, sea anemones, a few tiny sucker fish, and a beautiful purple starfish. 

after exploring the tide pools, we drove north to see the elephant seals.  unfortunately, i have no pictures to share, they're all on christy's camera!



On our last full day, monday, we headed out for one last beach adventure.  we sat on the beach while the kids played in the sand, then we climbed around the rocks at Morro Bay.
