At church on Sunday, our pastor compared our children to our hearts outside of our body. I think on a daily basis between whining, asking for snacks, destroying the living room amongst other things it's easy to just let the magnitude of our responsibly for our kids fade into the background.
I, like you, can't help but feel sad this week. It's been a sharp reminder of how precious and defensless our kids are and that it's entirely our job to protect them.
With this on our minds, we had a bit of justified worry this morning although everything is fine now. The following occurred at the exit to our school, within a couple miles.
Here is the news article below:
Two men in custody after high-speed chase that put several North County schools in lockdown
The incident began at 7:10 a.m. at Highways 1 and 46 when a California Highway Patrol Unit attempted to stop a car that had a Sheriff's Office "be on the lookout" warning, said CHP Officer Adrian Ayala. The vehicle fled the scene at rates of speed that exceeded 100 miles per hour.
Officers set up a spike strip but the vehicle avoided it and continued toward Templeton. During the chase, one of the CHP units lost control and went off the road into a culvert. The officer sustained minor injuries.
The chase continued into Templeton where officers unsuccessfully tried to stop the car using a PIT maneuver. The suspects fled the vehicle when it reached Highway 101 and San Ramon Road.
Both suspects were arrested after a foot pursuit with officers. Several schools in the Templeton and Atascadero area were put in lockdown as a result of chase.
"We were lucky the Highway Patrol was on the scene," said Dan Eller of Cambria, who witnessed the chase. "They put their own lives at risk to protect the public."
